:: Statement

As a creator of oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, my guiding principle is honesty of expression. My love of the works of many master artists, including Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings, has led to my lifelong, passionate expression of this art form and my resulting experimentation. Organic forms bound by color, rhythm and movement intrigue me. I feed on beauty and contrast, and find mystery in the simplest of things. I love it when dimly lit, greyed areas in a painting create a stage for forms of dynamic color.

My field of view is often quite close to the object, and the soulful melodies I hear while painting come to life in the finished piece. A recent series of hand paintings reveal the many emotions these forms of flesh and bone portray by their slightest tilt and nuanced movement. I feel that putting a visual to these emotions defines my role as artist and storyteller. My regional landscapes showcase muted hillsides, yawning willows, and enfolded marshes along the meandering rivers. My still life’s depict a simplistic view of life and the objects we love, and my portraits of pets and people hint at the inner depth of the subjects.
